AEON Participates in Food Waste Recycling Scheme Turns Food Waste into Animal Food Makes Good Use of Residual Resources Promotes Concept of Recycling

(Hong Kong, 14 January 2014) – AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited (“AEON Stores” or the “Group”) (Stock code: 984) announced that its food waste recycling scheme has been extended to all general merchandise stores (GMS) and supermarkets of the Group in Hong Kong today.

The food waste recycling scheme aims to transform food waste and packaged food into fish feed after processing. AEON Stores participates in this scheme with the goal of recycling raw and cooked meat, bones, vegetables and cereal products, which are collected, sorted, treated and manufactured into organic fish feed by recyclers each day. Starting from last November, its Kornhill and Lai Chi Kok stores began participation in the scheme. The trial run was so successful that the Group intends to expand the scheme to eight GMS and five supermarkets. In addition, its Tuen Mun store joined a similar campaign held by Tuen Mun Town Plaza at the end of last year, supporting food waste recycling with other AEON stores.

Ms. Christine Chan, Managing Director of AEON Stores, said, “AEON Stores has been enthusiastically supporting environmental protection over the years. We have held tree-planting and used book recycling activities for many years. In 2013, we joined the Food Resources Recycling Centre project to promote food recycling. By participating in the food waste recycling scheme, we hope to turn residual resources into useful resources, with the aim of promoting the concept of resources recycling.”
