The "Used Book Recycling Campaign 2023", organized by World Vision Hong Kong and AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., has always been well received by the public. As of 2023, the campaign has collected over 6.34 million old books and raised over HKD 37.4 million in funds, supporting World Vision's educational projects worldwide while promoting environmental protection. The campaign, now in its 29th year, resumed for the first time since the pandemic and concluded successfully in early September. This year, for the first time, the funds raised is used for local educational projects in Hong Kong, supporting students with special educational needs. This includes the construction of specialized teaching environments and providing therapy and tutorial classes for underprivileged students with reading and writing difficulties, helping them develop life and vocational skills and take strides towards a new future.

Mr. Shum Lap Ping, Principal of Fortress Hill Methodist Secondary School stated, "The inauguration of the‘Gerontechnology & Smart Living Training Room’marks the official launch of a qualification framework course that is oriented towards elderly care at the school. Students who previously participated in the 'Intergenerational Harmony Ambassadors' program have expressed their harmonious interactions with the elderly, as well as the development of patience and the ability to handle repetitive tasks, which are essential elements in caring for the elderly." He also shared that the school has identified students with the potential to enter the elderly care service industry, leading to the establishment of the "Elderly Care Course", which provides students with practical theoretical and practical nursing knowledge.

Building upon the foundation of the course, with the support of World Vision and AEON, the transformed " Gerontechnology & Smart Living Training Room" is equipped with the most advanced elderly technology products and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. It simulates scenarios of elderly care, allowing students to familiarize themselves with the requirements of the nursing industry, acquire basic nursing knowledge, and arrange for student internships. Through this classroom, students will learn how to utilize technology and smart home devices to provide better care and improve the quality of life for the elderly, while also cultivating empathy and a caring attitude. The teaching staff have obtained certifications in "Certificate for Elderly Home Care Worker" and "Occupational Therapy (Elderly Services) Certificate." They have also gained experience from visiting elderly care homes to provide professional guidance to students.

Mr. Li Yat Ming, Assistant General Manager, Operations (GMS & SSM) of AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Ltd., stated, "In recent years, Hong Kong and the world have been facing the increasingly severe issue of an aging population. According to government's estimation, the population aged 80 or above in Hong Kong will increase from the current 5.3% (about 400,000) to 12.2%, doubling to nearly 990,000 by 2040. Amid aging population, the role of students present today is crucial. We hope that in the future, students will contribute to society with the knowledge and skills they have acquired, alleviating the social pressures brought by an aging population."

AEON will continue to uphold its basic principle of "Contributing to the Community", fulfill its corporate social responsibility, and pursue the vision of "Create a future lifestyle that leads to a smile for each and every person". We will bridge barriers between corporations, organizations, and groups, establish extensive connections and collaborations, and jointly create a better life while actively giving back to society.
