Eco-paddy for Wildlife: Rice Transplanting Workshop

Aligning with its dedication to environmental protection, when AEON STYLE Kornhill and AEON STYLE Whampoa celebrated their grand opening, the Group organised a “Hearty Flower Donation” and raised over HK$150,000 for the “Eco-paddy for Wildlife” project of The Conservancy Association in support of local farming and conservation of ecology and biodiversity. On April's AEON Day, a volunteer team formed by customers and employees joined an eco-paddy rice transplanting workshop at Long Valley.

Before going to the fields, The Conservancy Association briefed the participants about the ecosystem of Long Valley and the process of growing eco-paddy rice. Long Valley, located in Sheung Shui, is the largest piece of fresh water farming wetland in Hong Kong, which is also frequently visited by many kinds of wildlife such as birds and frogs, making it one of the important local ecology hotspots. On the paddy rice fields, the volunteers worked barefoot in water to plant the seedlings into the mud carefully. Through this meaningful activity, the participants have learned about the ecological importance of rice paddy and local farming. They have also got a real taste of rice farming, which was hard yet fun.
