WWF Coastal Watch 2015-16 - Site Action (1)

As a good corporate citizen, AEON is always devoted to supporting environmental conservation. This year, we joined the Coastal Watch 2015-16 organised by World Wide Fund Hong Kong. The programmes aims at encouraging people to cherish our seas and keep them clean. Coastal Watch uses scientifically sound methodologies to study, protect and provide year-round monitoring for all of Hong Kong’s ecologically valuable coastal habitats.

On 10th October, AEON Coastal Watch Volunteer Team went to Tai O to carry out the first Site Action. Before the real work, the team scientists introduced the historical and ecological value of the habitat, so as to let the volunteers understand more about the objectives of the programme. The volunteers then began to classfy the marine litter, that was collected by fishermen earlier, in a very precise and meticulous manner. The data will then be analysed, which will enable us to identify the source and help the government or corporates to formulate policies to protect the ocean.

Lastly, the team scientists further explained the issue of marine litter for the participants to learn more deeply and reflect on their own behaviour as well. In this activity, the volunteers not only contributed to marine conservation, but also learnt a lot for themselves.
