AEON Volunteer Team: Organic Resources Recovery Centre Phase 1 (O·PARK1) Visit

On 28th June 2023, a group of AEON staff visited O·PARK1 located at Siu Ho Wan, North Lantau Island, in order to understand more on the store's daily food waste recycling process and AEON's contribution to environmental protection.

Having committed to making a contribution to the environment, AEON is dedicated to promoting environmental protection and sustainable development in the society through various means. Since 2014, AEON has been actively involved in the food waste recycling project, which emphasizes the importance of local food waste recycling and waste-to-energy work in Hong Kong. With funding from the Environmental Protection Department, O·PARK1, the first local Organic Resources Recovery Centre, was set to begin in 2018. AEON’s daily food waste from its stores has been collected and transported to the Organic Resources Recovery Centre Phase 1 (O·PARK1) for the food-waste-to-energy processes, where advanced technology is used to convert it into energy, thereby relieving the burden on landfills and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Through the activity, AEON staff have not only learnt about the latest restoration system equipment, gaining valuable insights into the feasibility and importance of Organic Resource Recovery in Hong Kong, but also have applied the knowledge of environmental sustainability and consolidated the concept of circular economy via electronic interactive games. From individual to enterprise, we take responsibility for practicing the culture of “Food Wise, Waste Reduction” at the source.
