AEON STORES REPORTS BOOSTED SALES DURING CHRISTMAS　CONTINUES SPECIAL PROMOTION IN NEW YEAR TO TAP IMPROVING CONSUMPTION SENTIMENT

(HONG KONG, 1 January 2010) – AEON Stores (Hong Kong) Co., Limited (“AEON Stores” or the “Group”) (Stock code: 984) reported strong sales during Christmas and will continue to roll out great-value-for-money New Year offers to tap improving consumption sentiment and boost sales.

During the special Christmas promotion between 25 and 27 December 2009, both total sales of all local stores of the Group and the average spending per customer increased, by 13.3% and 3.6% growth respectively relative to the same period in 2008. Overall patronage was almost 10% more than that of last corresponding period.

The Group plans to have the special New Year sale between 1 and 4 January 2010, aiming to attract more customers and boost average transaction amount and total sales to the same levels as during Christmas.

Mr. Lam Man Tin, Managing Director of AEON Stores, said, “We are particularly pleased with the sales performance of our stores during Christmas alongside the recovering retail market. Riding on the new addition of JUSCO Supermarket in Tseung Kwan O last month, we are confident to tap further the improving consumption sentiment.”

The Group's sales growth during Christmas was close to the 15% higher end of the year-on-year growth forecast for department stores made by the Hong Kong Retail Management Association (“HKRMA”).

Mr. Lam continued, “Year 2009 was a challenging year affected by the economic recession, but the local economy has been quick to rebound. We expect the continuous pick up of the local economy as well as the retail sector overall in the coming year with spending on basic necessities remaining strong while that on luxurious items reporting a bigger increase.”

During the 4-day New Year sales promotion, customers of the Group can redeem selected merchandises at the special price of HK$1 for every purchase of certain amount. Besides, AEON Stores also offer a wide array of selected merchandises , including vacuum insulated mug, kitchen set, bedding, range hood and etc. at the prices of HK$88, HK$388, HK$888 and $1,888 to customers, up to 75% off discount.

The Group also launched the Family J CARD Mini Card on 1 January 2010 with size of one-third of normal card which is convenient for carrying around. Besides, the Mini Card uses the design of fingers in cartoon expression to carry out the message of a warm family enjoying pleasant shopping experience.
